Fields
of Healing:
Wisdom and the New Sciences July
10 - 17, 2007 Assisi,
Italy
The words alone evoke a timeless sense of peace, and the confluence
of matter and spirit. Indeed, there is perhaps no greater place
to study wisdom archetypes, or experience something transcendent.
Virtually anyone who has spent time in Assisi will attest to the
intimation of healing that surrounds this ancient city.
Healing
refers to a connection to the Self, and to the soul. Eternal wisdom
traditions provide us the means for such connections. They tell
about a world much richer than we experience through modern consciousness.
Every mystic, sage, and healer informs and explains, then even scolds
us when we ignore this other domain. Jung's investigations into
the workings of the Self and the Objective Psyche provided a contemporary
bridge between these ancient traditions and their ongoing existence
and influence in our unconscious. It is through our dreams, fantasies,
complexes, and relationships that we not only learn about the reality
of the psyche, but discover ways to understand the language of these
wisdom traditions.
Technological advances had for many years eclipsed science, which
originally represented humanity's hunger to comprehend the mysteries
of the world and the domain of matter. Now, with insights gained
through modern discoveries, the new sciences have fortunately offered
a means to reconnect science with spirit and soul. This is especially
clear in the influence of the new sciences on complementary medicine,
where we learn a deeper appreciation and understanding of mind-body
healing.
We
will discuss what constitutes healing from an archetypal perspective,
in a series of interdisciplinary talks by a truly diverse faculty.
They represent practitioners and pioneers from the fields of Jungian
analysis, the new sciences, and Music Thanatology. Our speakers
are Michael Conforti, Jungian analyst and pioneer in the field of
matter-psyche studies, as well as Mario Jacoby, a lecturer and Jungian
analyst from the International Seminar for Analytical Psychology
in Zurich. We will also be joined by Beverly Rubik, biophysicist
and researcher on traditional and complementary healing, who studies
the role of subtle body fields, and has observed indigenous healing
practices around the world. Completing this dynamic roster is Therese
Schroeder-Sheker, an Emmy award-wining musician and founder of the
field of Music Thanatology, serving the physical and spiritual needs
of the dying and their loved ones.
Michael
Conforti, Ph.D. will be leading an optional case seminar on Thursday
and Friday afternoons from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. In this colloquium,
Dr. Conforti will present clinical and theoretical illustrations
of archetypal pattern analysis, and will examine the workings of
complexes and archetypes. This small seminar is a unique opportunity
to explore ways of applying Jung's symbolic approach to psyche in
psychotherapy and organizational consultation. This program is open
to anyone attending the full conference.
We
hope you can join us for this wonderful event, in one of the world's
most spectacular cities.
